Xavier’s Electoral Literacy Club

“Franchise your vote for an empowered tomorrow”

 

As rightly quoted by, John F. Kennedy “the ignorance of one voter in a democracy impairs the security of all. Voting is not just the legal right enshrined in the constitution of India, but it is the power of every citizen to establish democracy in the true sense. Voting is a pillar of democracy, a right, which empowers every citizen of the country.  With this vision, the Election Commission of India has undertaken an initiative to establish the Electoral Literacy Club in schools and colleges, under SEEVAP (Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation for developing a culture of avid electoral engagement and making informed about ethical ballot decisions among citizens of the country. The program was officially launched on National Voters' Day 2018.  Department of Arts (BA pass course) is willing to take an initiative to establish Xavier’s Electoral Literacy Club.  It is constituted at the behest of the Election Commission of India (ECI) in all the educational institution with a motive to aware and ensures the participation of youth & future voters who are pillars of Indian democracy.

Vision

To increase the electoral participation of the students of the college and also to motivate them to conduct field activities to encourage the people to exercise their voting rights.

Objective

  •   To spread awareness about the “Right to Vote” among students, faculties, and the community at large.
  •  To implement the principle Every vote counts’ and ‘No voters to be left behind;
  •   To develop critical thinking of students on various issues related to political rights, ethical voting, election rights, and democracy;
  •  To facilitate voter registration for its eligible members who are not yet registered;
  •  The club would work to educate the enrollment of future voters and other processes like the use of EVM/VVPAT. The activities would be conducted at the school level, college level, and the community at large;
  •  Spreading awareness among the people at the parochial level to establish Chunav Pathshalas;

Benefits to the students

 

  1. The students would be aware of the electoral process.
  2. Good work done by the students would be awarded by the State Election Department, Government of Rajasthan.
  3. Greater involvement in the field and survey study. 
  4. Internships under State Election Department, Government of Rajasthan.
